Max William Kurtz was born on November 30, 1928 in New
Point, Missouri., the son of Russell Oren and Ruth (Markt) Kurtz. Max
graduated from Oregon High School in 1946.
On February 12,
1950 he married Shirley Jane Clark, and they became parents of four sons.
Shirley passed away in 2008. On March 4, 2010, he married Caroline (Williams)
Hall. She survives of their Forest City home.
Max farmed in Holt
County all his life, raising corn, soybeans and hogs.
Max passed away on
Monday, December 2, 2013 at a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 85.
In addition to his
wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and son,
Greg.
Survivors include his
wife, Caroline of Forest City; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Jean Kurtz
of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Kent and Leah Kurtz of Forest City;
stepchildren, John Hall, Jr. and Charles “Chuck” Hall, both of Mound City, and
Marilee Hall of Rapid City, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; six step
grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and
brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Darlene Kurtz of Oregon and Jerry and
Evelyn Kurtz of Forest City, Missouri.
Max was a member of
the Oregon United Methodist Church.
Services were held at the Oregon United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Dec.
4, 2013 at 10:30 am. Family visitation was held on Tuesday evening from
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Oregon. Interment was
at Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the
Oregon United Methodist Church Building Fund.
