Milan E. Boswell

Milan Eugene Boswell passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Oregon Care Center in Oregon, Missouri.

Milan was born Sept 1, 1920 near New Point, Missouri to W. Rayburn and Mildred Kunkel Boswell. He was a 1938 graduate of New Point High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri in May 1942. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Corps.

Milan married Elizabeth T. Botkin on Feb. 8, 1943 in St Joseph, Missouri. After his discharge from the Army, Milan coached basketball and taught industrial arts and business classes at Modale High School in Modale, Iowa from 1946 to 1949.

Milan and Elizabeth returned to the New Point area to farm in 1949. They moved to their farm north of Oregon in 1969. Elizabeth preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2000.

Milan enjoyed farming, basketball, fishing trips to Lake Lida Minnesota, and spending time with his family. He encouraged others to make the most of their abilities. He was of special encouragement to his five grandchildren.

He was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church and a former member of the New Point Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the ASC committee, Farmers Mutual Insurance Board and the New Point School Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his parents; and brother, Wayne D. Boswell.

Survivors include his daughters, Lorrane Hicks (Larry) of Oregon, and Coleen Greiner of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Stephen (Charlotte) Hicks, David (Anquenette) Hicks, Jasmine (Joe) Silva, Rachael (Greg) Monico, and Coburn Greiner; seven great grandchildren, Joseph, Aleiah, Mia, and Gabrielle Hicks, Shaylee Hicks, Natalie Monico, and a great grandson expected in January; two step great grandchildren, Reginald Garner and Drake Oetting; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Oregon United Methodist Church, New Point Cemetery, or the Serenity Garden at the Oregon Care Center .

Services were held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:30 pm at the Oregon United Methodist Church.  Interment with military rites was held at the New Point Cemetery.
