Peter Keith Fluitt was born in Asheville, North Carolina on February 9, 1949. He was one of three children of Robert Keith and Betsy (Boggess) Fluitt.
Peter graduated from East Henderson, North Carolina High School, and then entered the United States Army in 1969.
Sergeant First Class Fluitt retired from the service in 1989, and began his career as a truck driver for the Werner Truck Line. He lived in Omaha, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa during his employment with Werner.
Peter retired from Werner and moved to Rock Port, Missouri in 2009. He passed away at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri on February 14, 2015 at the age of 66.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Peter K. “Pete” and Cheri Fluitt of Miamisburg, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Pat Enright of Dayton, Ohio; and daughters Angela Owen and Lisa Pressley, both of Slater, South Carolina; brother, Clifford Fluitt of Lexington, South Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Phil Handy of Hendersonville, North Carolina; fiancée, Donna Dewees of Rock Port; Donna’s family; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Peter was a member of the American Legion Omaha Post #1.
Services: Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Interment: Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, 2:30 pm, Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.
