Richard was born to Walter and Doris (Keiffer) Brown on January 30th, 1940 at their family farm. He attended Mound City R-2 and graduated in 1958. He joined the Air Force in 1963. He worked at Rosecrans as an Air Force mechanic, and was then honorably discharged in March of 1969.
Richard married Linda Wardlow on November 8th, 1964, and they later divorced. Together they had two children, Lori (Elton) Brown and Ryan Brown.
He later married Penny Gilland on August 20th, 2007, and gained three bonus children, Michael Aborn, Kailea Nauman and Michelle Panning.
Richard was born and raised on the farm and was a cattle and dairy farmer with row crops. He loved working the land and, as he called it, “being in God’s Cathedral.” He worked as the street superintendent for the city of Mound City from 1989 to 2006. He served the American Legion Paul P. Shutts Post 121 and as a treasurer for the Mound City Rural Fire Department for 30 years.
Richard loved his family, but most of all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Richard lived a good life and he was so loved. He had many good friends and was known for the stories he would tell. He loved his wife and his family, and we rejoice he is now healed and free from pain in our eternal home.
Richard is proceeded in death by his father and mother, Walter and Doris Brown; sister, Joyce Loucks; nephew, John Robert Loucks; and great nephew, Jared Loucks.
