Francis Richard Walker of Eagle Rock, MO entered Heaven surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, AK after a short illness.
Richard was born to Francis and Virginia Walker on August 14, 1937, in Mound City. Known as Shooter to all his family & friends, Richard was always curious about how things worked and what was behind every rock. He graduated from Mound City High School in 1955 and took a job at Moody’s Feed Store and Vest Oil before joining the Army Reserves in 1956.
After basic training at Fort Riley, KS, Richard served as an Armor Communications Specialist and served 3 years in Germany. He returned home to Mound City after being honorably discharged in February 1960.
Richard married the love of his life, Janice (Boyd) on May 10, 1962. Together they raised their family on a farm near Rosendale, MO. Over the course of his lifetime, he worked at Crouch Truck Lines in Elwood, KS; served as a deputy for the Andrew County Sherriff’s office and retired as the Regional Supervisor for the Kansas City office of the Missouri Division of Transportation & Railroad Safety where he served 20 years.
From 1971-1974 Richard served in the Air National Guard as an Avionics Communications Technician for the 139 th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Rosecrans Air Base.
Never one to sit still, Richard worked for Yocum’s Ag Service after retirement before he & Janice moved to their current home on Table Rock Lake in southern Missouri. Here they have enjoyed many years of watching the grandkids learn to water ski, many visits from family & friends, and watching the sunset over the lake.
Richard was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Walker of Wathena, KS.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; two children, Troy (Connie) Walker of McDonough, GA and Darian (Jeff) Graff of Sigourney, IA. They have seven grandchildren – Grant (Alyssa) Walker, Logan Walker, Devin Walker, Clint (Kory) Wilson, Lainey Graff, Justin Graff & Jessica Graff; and two great-grandchildren, Hallie & Bowen and several nieces & a nephew.
A visitation will be held at Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 9. Graveside services with military honors will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City on Monday, April 10, at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Eagle Rock Fire Department at 30625 State Highway 86, Eagle Rock, MO 65641.
