Robert Lee “Bobby” Meyer, formerly of Oregon, Missouri passed away after a battle with cancer on April 28, 2017 at his home in Alpine, California at the age of 64.
Bobby was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on July 9, 1952 to Robert James and Jerry Lee (Patterson) Meyer.
Bobby graduated from South Holt High School in 1970 and then attended Missouri Western State College, receiving his BS in education. He moved to California in 1976 and completed his Master’s degree in 1978 from San Diego State University. He also achieved his California Administrative Credentials from Azuza Pacific and San Diego State University.
On August 2, 1986 Bobby married Barbara Anita Stickles in San Diego. She survives of their Alpine, California home.
Bobby completed his Master’s in education in 1988 from Alliant International University.
He taught history and served as administrator for several schools in the San Diego area for 37 years. Bobby won several awards from the San Diego Unified School District before he retired from the classroom in June of 2015.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Robert Meyer, in 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; his mother, Jerry, of Oregon, Missouri; his mother-in-law, Florence Bessee of Alpine; brothers, James and Dale, both of Oregon, and Mark and his wife Elizabeth of Falls City, Nebraska; nephews, Aaron and Andrew Meyer of Kearney, Nebraska; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Bobby and Barbara traveled extensively throughout Europe and Ireland. Bobby was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, the California Retired Teachers Association, the San Diego Education Association, the Delta Chi Fraternity Southern California Chapter, the Missouri Western Alumni Association, and the Holt County Historical Society.
Bobby donated his body to the Willed Body Donor program, Western University Health Sciences in California.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Oregon.
