Robert B. Darrington

Robert Bruce Darrington, 76, of Forest City, Missouri, passed away August 1, 2023 at a Falls City, Nebraska nursing home.

Bob was born on April 24, 1947 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Orville and Clarice (Stenstadvold) Darrington. He attended grade school at South Shore High School in Yankton, South Dakota and graduated from the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.

Bob joined the Navy in 1969 and proudly served his country in a P3 Orion as a navigator (like Goose in the movie Top Gun) on Crew 1. He was based in Brunswick, Maine, but visited a lot of foreign countries.

Bob met Kathy Shelton in Kansas City, Missouri at The General's Inn bar when she asked him to dance. They were married on February 15, 1986, one year and one day after they met. They were blessed with their daughter, Kelly, on October 28, 1989.

Bob's love of cattle led him and Kathy to buy the Grant City Livestock Exchange, which they ran for 10 years. They then moved back to Forest City to continue Darrington Trucking. Bob retired in 2013 due to Parkinson's Disease.

Bob was an avid storyteller, including tales of seeing Big Foot and aliens. He enjoyed working on the Darrington family farm, cattle, and fishing, and loved family, friends, and Hamm's Beer. He was a competitive card player and enjoyed playing four-point pitch at The Mint.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his aunt and uncle, Bud and Jackie Darrington; and his cousin, Dan Darrington.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Kelly (Justin) Klepper and grandson, Kade; his cousin, Pat Darrington; and many friends that he considered family.
