Robert W. Rother was born on December 16, 1940 in Graham, Missouri to Edward P. and Hazel M. (Barker) Rother.
Robert graduated from Craig High School in 1958. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1958 until 1967.
On August 4, 1962 he married Linda Kay Hempstead, and they became parents of five children.
After serving in the Navy, Robert worked as a truck driver for Schoonover Oil. He worked at Exide from 1993 to 2001, and also operated Rother Duck & Pluck for several years. The Rother family operated a fireworks stand while the children were young.
Robert passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 74.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; brothers, Glen and Paul; sister, Linda Kimerling; and an infant sister, Betty Joan.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Cliff Holland of Dallas, Texas, Kelly and Paul Miller of Mound City, Dana and Troy Cotton of Oregon, Missouri, and Robin and Jay Dee Reynolds of Oregon; son and daughter-in-law, Robert “J.R.” and Jackie Rother of Mound City; his fishing and dancing partner, Ada Edwards; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: Tuesday, March 17, 2015, 10:30 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Family visitation: Monday, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment with military rites: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Memorials: Mound City Rural Fire Department, Holt County Cancer Fund, or the Missouri River Bluff Run.
