Roger Lee Liberty, elder of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, walked on November 14, 2025, in Rulo, Nebraska. He was born February 28, 1947, in Falls City, Nebraska.
Roger proudly served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant, and continued his dedication to the military in a civilian career supporting Air Force contracts for an additional 37 years, totaling 57 years of service to the Air Force. A Vietnam veteran, he was decorated with more than eleven medals, badges, and campaign ribbons, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Gallantry Cross, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and many others earned over a lifetime of faithful service.
His work and travels took him around the world, including Korea, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Colombia, Costa Rica, and many places in between. The stories about Roger are endless – some shared by those who knew him best, and many told in his own unforgettable way. He seemed to live dozens of lifetimes in one, and those who knew him will remember his wit, his dry humor, and his larger-than-life presence. They say legends never die, and to those who served with him, worked alongside him, or shared stories at his table, he was a legend. His legacy will live on in the memories and stories carried by the many people whose lives he touched.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Laura Liberty; grandsons, Everson and Oliver; granddaughter, Cailin; brother, Carl (Gerri) Liberty; sixteen nieces and nephews; dozens of great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
