Shirley Ann Hays

Shirley Ann Hays was born on March 4, 1939 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was the daughter of Claude M. and Mabel I. (Holland) Attebury.

Shirley graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph. She worked at the Carnegie Library in St. Joseph, and then worked for the state auditor as an executive secretary for 23 years, retiring in 1999.

On August 12, 2000 she married Ora R. "Jr." Hays.

Shirley passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Oregon Care Center at the age of 73.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Robert Eugene Cox, Jr.; brother, Claude Tipton Jr.; and sister, Margaret Crosley.

Survivors include her husband, Jr. Hays, of Oregon, Missouri; her daughter, Teresa "Teri" Cox of Stewartsville, Missouri, two stepdaughters, Rhonda and husband Gary Fuller of Oregon, and Renee Miller of Oregon; two stepsons, Tom and his wife Ladeana Hays of King City, Missouri, and Tim Hays of Oregon; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Dan McPhee of Stewartsville, Connie and Charlie Pitchette of St. Joseph, and Sherry and Bob Anderson of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a member of St. Patrick's Church in St. Joseph. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and her grandkids.

Private family services were held at Mount Olivet Chapel in St. Joseph. Interment was held at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Oregon Care Center Serenity Garden.
