Shirley Jean (Pennel) Cain

Shirley Jean Cain, 87, passed away on August 14, 2019. Born in Oregon, Missouri, on November 22, 1931, she was the daughter of Hugh and Mildred (King) Pennel.

She married the love of her life, Dr. Gerald G. Cain, in 1949. In 1964 they chose Richardson, Texas as their home. She lived in the same house for over 50 years where she hosted EVERY Thanksgiving and Christmas for her family. She retired from Richardson Independent School District, where she was secretary for Special Education.

She will be remembered as the best mom, grandma, and great-grandma in the world. Her family always came first. She was a dear friend and a very special lady to all she met. She loved to travel, her favorite being in a Model T. She was a lifelong member of Community Christian Church of Richardson, Texas and Lone Star T Club, DFW.

She is survived by her brothers, Berres (Lucille) Pennel of Hiawatha, Kansas, and K. Roger Pennel of Fairfax, Missouri;  brother-in-law, Dick Dunnihoo of Madrid, Iowa; daughters, Candy (Robert) Jebavy of Decatur, Texas and Susan (Steve) Bourgeois of Waco, Texas; daughter-in-law, Doris Cain of Florida; grandchildren, Carrie (Kevin) Smith, Kristi Stewart, Elizabeth Mackey, Becca (Ryan) Tuley, Amanda Bourgeois, Mark Bourgeois, and Steve Bourgeois, Jr.; and great grandchildren, Bree Neal, Aiden and Tristan Smith, and Joseph, Franklin, and Steven Thomas Mackey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Cain; her parents; sister, Elizabeth Jo Dunnihoo; son, Gerald Cain, Jr.; and grandson, Steven Stewart.

Graveside service: Saturday, July 11, 2020, 10:00 am, Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon, Missouri.  Memorials: Community Christian Church in Richardson or the Alzheimer’s Association. Shirley donated her body to medical science.
