Shirley A. Staples, 79, of Mound City, Missouri passed away January 25, 2018 at Tiffany Heights in Mound City.
She was born on February 16, 1938 in Graham, Missouri, and graduated from Graham High School.
She married Edwin “Ed” Staples on June 8, 1958 at Bethany Christian Church near Graham. They became parents of six children. Shirley worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry E. and M. Wilma (Weston) Zion; sisters, Sharon Zion, Verletta Hurst; and brother Ron Zion.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ed, of Mound City; children, Brenda Graves, Chris (Janet) Staples, Danny (Gretchen) Staples, all of Mound City; Sheila (Lance) Strong, Maysville, Missouri, Devin (Jen) Staples, Maryville, Missouri, and Kevin (Heather) Staples, Mound City; 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren (plus one pending); sister, Nellie (Joe) Christensen, Maryville, Missouri, brother, Maurice (Janet) Zion, Chillicothe, Missouri, brothers-in-law, Ronnie Hurst and Gary Staples, sisters-in-law, Ardith Zion and Rita Staples; and nieces and nephews.
Family visitation: Sunday, January 28, 2018, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Services: Monday, January 29, 2018, 10:30 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City.
