Susan M. Hays

Susan Marie (Richey) Hays was born on Aug. 7, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was one of four children of Clifford and Mary (Gartland) Richey. She grew up in St. Joseph, Mo. and graduated from Central High School.

On June 7, 1972 she married Larry Hays in Forest City. They were blessed with one son. Sue worked a variety of jobs. Her greatest job, however, was her role as mother and grandmother.

Sue loved to laugh and have fun with her family. She enjoyed sitting by a fire and spending time with the love of her life, Larry. Sue was very strong in her faith and trusted that God was in control of all things.

Sue passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the age of 69.

We will miss the laughter and the smile that was always on her face, even in hard times.

She is survived by her husband of over fifty years, Larry, of their Oregon, Missouri home; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Tenique Hays and grandson, Conor Orion Hays, all of Savannah, Mo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Robyn) Richey and Mark (Regina) Richey, all of St. Joseph, Mo.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Junior and Pat Hays, and Karen and Carol Wilson, all of Oregon, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and sister and brother-in-law, Pat and George Buckles.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with private family inurnment at Benton Cemetery, Mound City.
