Tom Rogers Markt was born on May 16, 1928 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was one of two sons of Lloyd Frederick and Alice Elizabeth (Babb) Markt.
Tom graduated from Oregon High School, and later received a B.S. in Agriculture from University of Missouri, Columbia.
While at college he met June Caroline Ross. They were married on June 11, 1950 in Kennett, Missouri.
Tom and June returned to Oregon and Tom farmed until his retirement. He ran a Grade A dairy operation for many years, and also had traditional row crops. He and his son, Tom M., started T& T Farms Inc. in 1978.
Tom passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Oregon Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Glada (Sommer) Markt.
Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, June, of their Oregon home; daughter, Caroline Lou (Michael) Murphy of Austin, Texas; son, Tom M. (Tamara) Markt of Oregon; four grandchildren, Kristin (Chris) Irvin, Michael (Megan) Murphy, Tevan (Dana) Markt and Tishlyn (A. J.) Majewski; 10 great grandchildren, James and Briana Irvin, Gwen, Ashley and Jason Murphy, Madison, Meghan, and Trent Markt, and Hailey and Drake Majewski; and nieces and nephews.
Tom was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church, and had served on the South Holt School Board, the Zook and Roecker Bank Board of Directors, and Cannon Drainage District. While in college he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
He enjoyed his family and farming, feeding and watching birds, and driving through the countryside to just “see what was going on.”
