Verna Mae Nauman was born on July 4, 1915 in Mound City, Missouri. She was the daughter of John C. and Pink O. (Bear) Nauman.
Verna lived in Mound City until 1943, when she moved to Kansas City, Missouri. She worked for the General Motors Chevrolet Division, retiring after 28 years.
Verna passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at The Forum at Overland Park in Overland Park, Kansas at the age of 97.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Lillian Parr; and brothers, Gordon and Melvin Nauman.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary Nauman of Denver, Colorado; two nieces, Jean Nauman of Denver, and Debbie Jackson of Omaha, Nebraska; two nephews, Dick Nauman of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Tom Nauman of Hastings, Nebraksa; many great nieces and nephews; special friends and caregivers Janine Kalantar, Cheryl Robertson, Kerri McClain, and Demi Renault; and her friends at The Forum.
Verna was a volunteer for the Baptist Lutheran Hospital starting in 1980, and earned an award for 9,000 hours of volunteer service. She was very active, and she and her sister Lillian competed in ballroom dance competitions, winning many awards. Verna was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Mound City.
Services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City. Interment was at the Mount Hope Cemetery.
A second service will be held on Saturday, March 16th, 2013, at 10:30 am at the Second Presbyterian Church, 318 E. 55th St, Kansas City, Mo.
