Viola Fern Gordon was born on Jan. 17, 1926 in Graham, Missouri to Lewis A. and Ruby Fay (Richardson) Kurtz. She graduated from Oregon High School and then from Maryville State Teachers College.
Viola Fern taught school at Kimsey, Brush College and New Point.
On Oct. 20, 1950 she married Connie Gordon. Together they hauled grain for the farmers of the area.
Viola Fern was an active member of the United Methodist Church and organized many church dinners. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Friendly Circle Club. She and Connie traveled extensively, and especially enjoyed fishing in Minnesota.
Viola Fern passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at a St. Joseph Missouri hospital at the age of 89.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Connie; and sister, Ramona Kurt Hinde.
Survivors include two brothers, Wayne (Anita) Kurtz of Oregon, and Bill (Margot) Kurtz of St. Joseph; nieces; nephews; and her church family.
Services: Friday, June 12, 2015, 10:30 am, Forest City United Methodist Church. Family visitation: Thursday, 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Interment: Forest City Cemetery.
