Viola Fern Thompson was born in Forbes, Missouri on October 9, 1929. She was one of seven children of Clarence and Hazel (Brock) Hall.
After graduating from high school she received her teaching certificate and taught in a rural elementary school for a few years.
Fern married Thomas Thompson in King City, Missouri on April 16, 1949. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, and a brother, Wayne Hall.
Fern passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Oregon Care Center at the age of 84. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Thompson of St. Joseph, Missouri and Kevin and Wynona Thompson of Oregon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Twyla Hall and Dwight and Rosemary Hall, all of Oregon; and Don Hall of Mound City, Missouri; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marcina and Dale Holstine of Mound City, and Mary Ellen and Cesar O’Phelan of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Joan Hall of Oregon; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Fern was a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had served as a Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church. Fern enjoyed fishing, especially with her brother Wayne.
Services were held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Oregon. Family greeted friends one hour prior to services. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery.
