Virgil L. “Junior” Kanatzar, 91, passed away at his Mound City home on March 3, 2018.
Virgil was born on Sept. 21, 1926 in Clyde, Missouri, one of four children of Virgil L. and Jennie “Annie” (Long) Kanatzar.
Virgil served in the Merchant Marine, and later in the United States Army.
On May 13, 1959 he married Marlene Stiernagle in Mason City, Iowa. They farmed in the Mound City area for many years.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Kanatzar, Sr. and Jennie Trimmer.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marlene, of their Mound City home; children, Vickie, Steve (Jodi), Emmett (Pam), James, and Eugene; sisters, Velma Kunkel, Mildred Deffenbaugh and Geraldine Wilson; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren (plus two on the way); and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services: Wed., March 7, 2018, 10:30 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Family visitation: Tues., 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors: South Bethel Cemetery, Mound City.
