Virginia A. “Ginny” (Heifner) Cox was born in Maryville, Missouri on July 24, 1930, one of three children of Lloyd Bryan and Alma Fern (Campbell) Heifner.
Ginny graduated from Maryville High School and later Christian College, Columbia, Missouri. She was also an alumnus of the University of Missouri.
In 1952 she married Hardin C. Cox in Maryville, and they became parents of two sons.
Ginny helped run the Cox and Sons Insurance Agency for many years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Rock Port, where she served as president of the church board several times. She also served on the former Tarkio College Board of Directors. She was a “campaigner extraordinaire” for her husbands numerous political campaigns.
Ginny passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at an Omaha, Nebraska hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lowell “Buddy” Heifner; and sister, Frances Foster.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hardin, of their Rock Port home; their sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Rita of McLean, Virginia and Mark and Sandra of Olathe, Kansas; six grandchildren, Eve, Hardie, Beth, and Charlie Cox, Ryan MacFarlane, and Erin and her husband Jeisun Lawson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John Henry and Claire Cox of Kansas City; and nieces and nephews, Richard Foster, and John, Jim and Fran Cox.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Rock Port. Following the service, the family greeted friends at a reception at the Rock Port Memorial Building. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church, Rock Port.
