Wayne Heck, 91, with family by his side, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Tiffany Heights Care Center in Mound City.
Wayne was born to Clarence and Hazel Dunkle Heck at their farm home north of Mound City on August 24, 1928. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1946 and lived and farmed in that area most of his life.
Wayne served during the Korean Conflict from January 1951 to December 1952.
He married Betty Ann Stadalman on February 13, 1955, at the First Christian Church in Mound City. They had three children, Bob (Cindy) Heck, Mike (Jennifer) Heck, and Janet (Joel) Luzmoor.
Wayne and Betty ran a Grade A dairy for 41 years, and they were chosen as Holt County Farm Family in 1972. He was a board member of the Holt County Soils and Water District for 21 years, and was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church. Wayne loved his bottle-fed calves, Mound City Panther basketball, and his family.
After moving from the farm to Mound City in 2010, he enjoyed daily visits to the local coffee shop and continued his love of all things red. He had lovingly restored his Super M-TA Farmall tractor and never owned a pickup that wasn’t a red Chevy.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia Bowland and Mary Lou Barrett; nephew, Donnie Barrett; niece, Linda Ann Barrett; and special aunt and uncle, Frank and Plumah Heck.
He is survived by his wife; children and their spouses; grandsons, Brandon (Rachel) Heck, Hayston (Katie) Wilson, Chandler (Morgan) Wilson, and William Heck; granddaughters, Blaire (Jarad) Owens and Gabrielle Heck; great-granddaughters Ava and Emma Heck, and one on the way; and nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
